Mobile Marketing Tip: SMS Voting to Engage your Audience
December 1st, 2009 by Patricia Carson
How can you use SMS short code marketing for more than mobile coupons or to blast reminders or other information? I got to thinking about it, and if you have access to a voting module in your mobile marketing platform, you should consider using it as an opportunity to get engaged with your audience and find out valuable information.
Two more advantages of a SMS voting campaign include the ability to add a strong call to action to the “Thank you for Voting” message to drive revenue and generate leads, and the ability to display the voting results in real time making it a truly interactive experience. Here’s a few of my thoughts on how to use SMS voting that might get your creative juices flowing.
Anyone who has done live events, such as professional training or seminars, knows it can be sometimes difficult to keep your audience engaged in the subject matter. SMS Voting is a great tool to make your sessions interactive and provide you with valuable data points. You can also incorporate the responses into your presentation for two-way communication. A great call to action in this situation would be to add a link to your website with an offer, like a free trial or other free content (white paper or an e-book), in your thank you message to generate leads.
For owners of bars and restaurants, several ways of using SMS voting comes to mind. You could let your customers pick the pizza or drink of the month, run a sports trivia game or pick the winning band in a the Battle of the Bands contest. Add a mobile coupon — give a free drink coupon or percentage off their next purchase — to the thank you message as a call to action to drive revenue.
Just as with mobile coupons, a SMS Voting campaign needs to be relevant to the audience in order to take advantage of the power of mobile marketing. It’s a pretty cool way to easily interact with your audience, find out valuable information plus generate leads, and drive revenue.
